TVP S.A. in Warsaw

First prize in the SARP competition for the transformation of the existing TVP S.A. complex at 17 Woronicza Street. The open, evolving circular shape of the new building signals a new strategy of openness for what was once the most ideologically charged institution in communist Poland. The building’s structure, with its vast, glazed spaces, creates an atmosphere of accessibility and a welcoming approach to the general public. The architectural language of the new Polish Television headquarters is close to the untamed and constantly evolving work of Frank Gehry. The Tower of Babel, dominating the rest of the complex, is a clear sign of today’s “multilingual” media reality. Other inspirations used in the project include the Ark motif (multifunctional rooms, studios, and technical areas), Japanese decorative patterns (the stone floor in front of the building), Rome’s Trevi Fountain (a sculpture of the globe emerging from the rocks), and the Victor statuette, the annual Television Academy Award winner (the sculpture in front of the building).
