Urban Politics

Polityka miejskaAfter over twenty years of freedom, democracy, and a free market economy it has become apparent that these three facotrs are not enough to create a vibrant, open, public space in the city. An alternative triad of factors for urban politics must be discovered that would regulate urban spheres, which citizens and institutions themselves do not do because of their own particular interests.

  • Drive the city's development through its infrastructure;
  • Create private property regulations, such that they result in a clear public space ordering;
  • Create a public realm for citizens, such that this space has clear boundries and provides the public with a feeling of freedom and no political/institutional pressures.

A beautiful city can not be designed by architects or urban planners if the urban government is indifferent to what is happening in the built environment. This is a historic truth that applies to all cities under any form of government.
